Gasha-Dokuro is a Boss in Nioh. This is the ?? Boss that players will encounter. The player will have to face this yokai in order to proceed with the game.

Gasha-Dokuro is a gigantic yokai born from the remains of the fallen soldiers at Sekigahara. Even in spite of its power and the number of souls needed to create it, the Gasha-Dokuro is merely a distraction, set up to buy time for Kelley to enact his real plan.

Location

  • Gasha-Dokuro is found in The Source of Evil Main Mission within the Sekigahara Region. To access the boss, the player must progress around a huge crater through a gauntlet of yokai. Along the way, there with be red crystals that create red circles on the ground that automatically summon revenants from any bloody graves within them. The crystals themselves can be converted using the item that Tenkai gives you at the start of the mission. Once converted, any red circles nearby will turn white, and provide a buff that fills/extends your Living Weapon gauge while inside them. Many of these circles appear in the boss arena, meaning that converting all three red crystals will allow you to keep your Living Weapon active for the entire duration of the boss fight.

Strategy 1 (Melee)

The activated Living Weapon works very well given that it will replenish due to the orange crystals.

Obtain the item needed to alter the red crystals’ color from Tenkai - this will help you a lot when dealing with the Gasha-dokuro later on. Once the fight starts, remember where your "starting position" is and how to get to it. This will be important later on in the fight. The first thing you need to do is break the glowing amrita stones in one of its hands or feet. Once you've depleted the health bar over one of these limbs, run back to your starting position while Tenkai restrains the Gasha-Dokuro. Hanzo will then call in an artillery strike, and the Gasha-Dokuro will fall down, with its head landing on the ledge where you began the fight. Active your Living Weapon and deal as much damage as possible before the boss gets back up. Keep breaking its limbs and smashing its head until the boss is dead.

Assuming that you interacted with the large red crystal next to the entrance to the boss arena, you shouldn't have to worry about running out of Living Weapon energy, as the white circles on the ground will keep replenishing it while you stand inside them.

If you've broken both of the boss' feet and are having trouble reaching its hands, there's an easy way to do this. Stand on the ledge just underneath your starting point (where the boss' head lands) and bait the boss into slamming one of its hands down on your position. Once the boss has done this, sprint up to your starting position and perform drop attacks on the hand until it breaks.

There are two places where you are generally safe from his attacks, one is on the slope next to the slope that lead to where you hit him when he felt down. Another one is a small corner on the far right of the map.

Use Hayama arrows to shoot him in the head for heavy damage.

Attacks

Gasha-Dokuro only has one attack phase.

First Phase
Defilement Orb Spews 1 to 3 orbs of energy that deal damage and create yokai realms on impact. Will use this attack when targeting the player before the boss fight actually starts.
Hand Slam Attempts to crush the player under one of its hands. Uses this attack when the player is on one of the higher levels of the crater.
Hand Sweep Sweeps its hand across whatever ledge the player is standing on. Will sometimes follow up with a Hand Slam.
Stomp Attempts to crush the player underfoot. Uses this move when its ankles are being attacked.
Heavy Spin Spins around while thrashing its arms and tail across all levels of the crater. Very hard to avoid or block, and deals heavy damage. Also hurts the Oni-bi and Skeleton Warriors that appear in the crater.

Yokai Lore / History

Gashadokuro (literally "starving skeleton") are yokai that are said to be born from the amassed bones of people who died from stavation or in battle and have not been buried. They take the form of skeletons that are several times taller than humans. They roam at midnight, grabbing lone travelers and biting their heads off so that they can drink their blood.

So, using a living weapon or magic projectiles is pretty much essential to beat this boss? What a horrible boss... I really like most bosses in Nioh and love the game but ffs sometimes this game...

To maximize the damage, you have to run to its head once you get its feet. Take time to learn the area first. See him fall,( he always falls the same way) learn where his head lands and which path to take to get there. The most obvious way to knock it down and reveal the head is to smash his feet.( once he raises a leg, move a great distance away, even if the leg does not stomp you, the dust/shockwave can easily hit 2k damage. If it breaks your ki. It can reach 2700 or death. There is a flame spirit that respawn every now and then. If you kill it, your weapon will get a nice buff which greatly speeds things up.anyway, you can't kill it by reaching for its legs alone. Try to find places for its hands. Along the way to his head, there is a lower ledge with a magic aura. He will slam his fist on you if you stand there and leave it for quite a while, allowing you to damage it. Keep baiting him and smashing that hand. Then he will be knocked down again. If Is very near death /almost no life left, you have the option to shoot spells into him or use bullets/arrows. Hit his weak spot ( rock in his belly, it doesn't move unlike the head) for over 1000 damage. If he too much life left, You also can find another magic aura and bait another hand. You can bait a different hand not far from the one mentioned in this comment. Instead of going up the ramp to the head, move the other way, there is another aura not far from the first hand. That should take him down already. Drop from ledges or change level to dodge his swipe/ hook. Run away from the center for his jump. For his special sweep, which hits both high and low, being too near him will avoid it.

shooting pretty much any form of spell up into it's body while standing at its feet is gonna do a truckload of damage, and it is alot easier than running back and forth from it's head and feet.

            • Easy boss once I figured him out on the second attempt. Knock his legs off, and get ready at the top ledge to bash his head in once he lands. I helped like 20 people with this boss yesterday. Seemed quite a few could not even work out the crystals heh. Use Suzaku guardian spirit special attack (triangle+circle) btw. Look at the boss hp being drained superfast.

The only thing I had a problem with was that bloody spin. I couldn't for the life of my figure out where if anywhere, was safe. If you actually have to dodge the attacks apparently I'm just bad.
