Mujina is an Enemy in Nioh.

Enemy Description

"Mujina are badgers transformed into crafty and cunning yokai. Like foxes and tanuki, stories of them diguising themselves as humans to do mischief have circulated since ancient times. They enjoy hiding inside treasure chests and springing out to surprise whoever opens the lid."

"Mujina love playing pranks and causing trouble, and are not necessarily malicious by nature. They may move strangely to see how a startled person reacts, but if that person responds with the same movement, they will leave the area, satisfied with their newfound playmate."

Notes & Trivia

  • 貉(むじな): Mujina - A badger yokai from Japanese Folklore, that shapeshifts into a human to deceive them. They are traditionally seen as mischievious, taking the form of attractive girls to wreck havock on their partner's life.
  • Chests with three rows of decoration instead of two contain a Mujina. Open them but don't kill it. Wait for it to do a gesture. Do the same gesture and gain the Overjoyed gesture, kill it the next time and get the Frustration gesture.
  • To avoid the damage and "open chest" animation, go up to the Mujina and use the "Whistle" gesture.  This will make it come out and show the gesture it wants you to repeat back to it
  • Like the tanuki that inspired them, Mujina have massive scrotums and what looks like a hood or cape is actually it's scrotum pulled through it's legs and draped over it's head.
  • They might be related to Kamaitachi (Sickle Weasel), which are spirits that rumoured to control the winds and portray as thieves.
