Anji's Tonfa Description
"Tonfa used by anji, who came from the royal family, or branches thereof, and worked as retainers to the Sho clan, the rulers of Ryukyu province. Befitting one of royal descent, these tonfa are lavishly decorated with gold and gemstones. Anji delegated much of their work to the lower—ranking ueekata, and attended exclusively to ceremonial duties. It is said that subordinates addressed the anji with the deferential pronoun "ume.""
