Kato is a Clan in Nioh.
Clan Analysis
Rising from common stock rather than nobility, the Kato clan served the Toyotomi clan and eventually came to rule Higo province (present-day Kumamoto prefecture). The clan's best-known leader was Kato Kiyomasa.
Kiyomasa entered Toyotomi Hideyoshi's service as a child. At the battle of Shizugatake he acquitted himself so well that he was considered one of the "Seven Spears" of the battle, a term referring to the generals who had made a decisive contribution. He continued to serve Hideyoshi faithfully afterwords, participating in the pacification of Kyushu and being made daimyo of half of Higo province in return. After Hideyoshi's death he approached Tokugawa Ieyasu, creating a deep division between himself and his long-time brother in arms Ishida Mitsunari.
The family crest was a simple ring known as a "snake's eye". Snakes were believed to be able to paralyse their prey by staring into their eyes, and the snake's eye symbol had been used for magical purposes since ancient times.
