Oni-bi is an Enemy in Nioh.

Oni-bi Description

"Oni-bi resemble floating balls of fire. They are formed when the elemental power of fire, water, wind, lightning, or earth coalesces around the will of a dead soul. They must be dinstinguished from the souls known as Hitodama that burn on once their bodies are no more; Oni-bi are yokai, plain and simple."

"Oni-bi literally means "demon fire", but they can be made of water, wind, lightning, or earth as well. Striking an Oni-bi with a weapon like a katana will temporarily give that weapon the elemental power of the Oni-bi."

Combat Information

• Hitting an Oni-bi with any melee weapon bestows their element to that weapon for a limited time.
• Oni-bi have very little health, but can stunlock you at close range.
• These floating heads are capable of ignoring terrain, hovering outside melee reach to launch fireballs.  Be patient until the creature is above walkable ground, or outside the range of fire.
• Blocking is largely irrelevant against Oni-bi.  Their main attacks do little damage, and their health is insufficient to survive trading hits.  Dodging or allowing oneself to take one blow in order to deliver one or two is a sound strategy.
• Oni-bi have a projectile attack which  deals only a small amount of damage, but can stun you.
• Shuriken or Kunai can kill an Oni-bi easily. Oni-bi can also be dispatched by rushing them with fast attacks.
• Being within touching range of an Oni-bi will stagger you while you attempt to attack. Stay at a minimal distance if you choose to dispatch them with melee weapons.
• Damaging Oni-bi with a shuriken or a kunai makes him fall on the ground for a small amount of time, allowing you to perform a critical hit.
