Shibata is a Clan in Nioh.
Clan Analysis
The Shibata clan served the powerful Oda clan of Owari province (present-day Aichi prefecture) and controlled Echizen (Fukui). Their leader was Shibata Katsuie.
Katsuie fought against Nobunaga at first, but later joined Nobunaga's forces and became one of his most trusted retainers. After defeating the Asakura clan, Katsuie was entrusted with Oda's northern strategy and claimed Echizen as his base of operations. At a conference in Kiyosu following Nobunaga's death, Katsuie took Nobunaga's sister Ichi as his wife, but this brought him into conflict with Toyotomi Hideyoshi over succession issues. Katsuie was defeated in battle at Shizugatake, and met a tragic end along with his entire family at Kitanosho Castle.
The Shibata family crest, "Maru-ni-fuatsu-karigane", was two wild geese, birds said since ancient times to bring welcome news and good fortune.
