Tsuruga Masamune & Hocho Toshiro Description
"A famous set of long and short katana, heirlooms of the Ashikaga Shogunate. Both swords are embellished with exquisite reliefs, and they passed to Otani Yoshitsugu via the Toyotomi clan. Tsuruga Masamune, the longer of the two, is the work of Sagami province's legendary swordsmith Masamune, and became the favored weapon of Yoshitsugu, lord of Tsuruga Castle. The shorter sword, Hocho Toshiro, was forged in the Awataguchi style by Toshiro Yoshimitsu of Yamashiro province. The blade is thin and sharp like a kitchen knife ("hocho"). According to legend, it was used to sever the arm of Kusunoki Masashige's vengeful spirit that had transformed into an ogress."
