Ichi-no-Tani Kabuto Description
"This 'kawari-kabuto' - a helmet adorned with fantastical designs - was worn by the daimyo Kuroda Nagamasa who served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. The skullcap is made of wood laid with silver leaf, and is lighter than it looks. The distinctive design was inspired by the famous Battle of Ichi-no-Tani from the Genpei War where, faced with an impregnable Taira clan fortress, Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune pulled off a remarkable victory. This helmet is shaped to signify triumph in war. paying homage to Yoshitsune's military exploits. It was passed on to Nagamasa by Takenaka Hanbei, a tactician who served Hideyoshi alongside Nagamasa's father. Kanbei Nagamasa wore the helmet during the Battle of Sekigahara."
