Nikkari Aoe Description
"A famous sword forged by the swordsmith Sadatsugu of the Aoe style in *****u province (present-day western Okayama prefecture.) Its name comes from a legend in which the sword split a stone monument in two after being used to cut down the spirit of a woman flashing a beaming ("nikkari") grin. After falling into the possession of Shibata Katsuie and later his son Katsutoshi, the sword was taken and presented to Toyotomi Hideyoshi by Niwa Nagahide after he slayed Katsutoshi. It is then believed to have been passed to Kyogoku Tadataka from Toyotomi Hideyori during peace negotiations after the winter Siege of Osaka."
