Strategy 1 (Melee)
The strategy to take her down is to first dodge to her rear and attack the glow on her back. Keep doing this until she moves to protect her back. When she does this, attack her from the front and dodge her attacks. Dodge away again when she attacks. Keep this pattern up until she is lower on health at which point she becomes signifcantly deadlier. During this lethal portion, having conserved your Guardian Spirit to this point will help finish her off wihout suffering a powerful one hit.
Strategy 2 (Magic)

Attacks
Joro-gumo has two attack phases. The first phase lasts until she has ~60% health remaining.
First Phase | |
---|---|
Claw swipes | Attacks the player 2-3 times with her "arms". |
Web Spray | Spits a purple web at the player from close range that slows down movement speed. |
Body Spin | When covering her abdomen with her legs, she can spin around 360 degrees and bash players that are too close. |
Second Phase | |
Ground Web | Coats the ground with spiderwebs that slow down players who walk on them. |
Charge | Tenses up, then flings her body towards the player at high speed. |
Jump Slam | Jumps into the air, then lands on the player's position, dealing heavy damage. Dodge at the last second to avoid. |
Grab | Grabs the player, dealing heavy damage. |
Offspring | Swells up her abdomen, then lays several eggs which produce small spider minions. This move also creates several yokai realms behind her. |
Yokai Lore & History
女郎蜘蛛: Jorogumo - "Woman-Spider". In Japanese Folklore, when a spider reaches 400 years of age, it gains strong magical powers and a hunger for human males. Cunning and dispassionate, the spiders shapeshift into young and beautiful women who use their sensuality to lure young men to feed on. They are said to lure samurai with their beauty and by playing music graciously, only to them poison them and spin silks to trap them for eating. In some stories, they are capable of controlling other spiders, commanding an army of arachnids to their aid.
Despite the wide negtivity towards this yokai, there are instances of Jorogumo in folklore that resulted in actually worship of them as a God that may prevent people from drowning.
To understand more about the period of history please see our Lore page.
Notes & Trivia
- This creature relates to the Arachne, deady beings who lure victims by disguising themselves as humans. Once they finally succeed on finding a "mate", they reveal their identities and trap them in their webs where the offspring suck the hosts blood and eat them inside their body.

Despite being one of the easiest bosses in the game she's still hard to escape from once you fail to dodge. Take one hit and you're very likely gonna die

hitting the boss in her rear where the amrita is concentrated (also applied for other bosses) gives a little amount of amrita. I have tested her amrita and gold drop by fighting her without any equipment that will increase amrita or gold earned from the boss. amrita earned : 12852 ( might be less because I hit her in rear as final hit) Gold earned : 1254 This is just a guessing, may be the amrita and gold earned increase or decrease depends on how many times you encounter the boss, I will test it again tomorrow

You can weaken the boss by finding some items called hiragumo fragments scattered through out the stage. I did not encounter and trouble with leg armor at all; prob because I was looking for extras and items. She crawls slowly, you can get her with ranged items, guardian spirits or bombs. Keep going to her side as you dodge. You may find yourself in a good spot, like her rear, where you can flank her. Her counter to flanking is predictable. She will do a spin attack. Back up, after a few hits. Let the spin pass, come in again for a few hits. You are lucky if she spins yet again, as you can do the same thing.

Just a bit of trivia that needs testing (I do not own the game) : it seems that the armor JoroGumo has, is actually Hiragumo Fragments and so if you collect them all, she won't have any armor. Just watched someone fight her and he only forgot 1 Hiragumo Fragment before fighting her, and turns out she only had armor on one leg only.

She does drop Spider leg husks, it's just a ridiculously low drop chance for a boss, worse than Umi-bozu's eye stones. Waiting for twilight mission "Bearer of Ill tidings" worked great for me. Just head down the right side from the start, down the pit, and she's a miniboss. Kill her, then just leave mission and go back. takes me like a minute at like 150ish lvl. I used Saorise with guardian talisman for water and Wind talismans for weakness and discord. Destroy her butt with low stance for best time. Dont forget to equip hunter's blessing! this drop rate sucks!

There a way to break through her "leg shield" .... because I waste so much time waiting for her weak point to be exposed. Super easy boss with annoying time wasting defense.

Beat her first try completely blind without getting hit once. What a push over
Going to be quite honest, this boss's drop rate is absurdly low. The best method I've found to farm leg husks is to play Hyakki Yagyo, a mission in Omi Region that unlocks after the postgame mission The Queen's Eyes directly after the main game completes. It's a boss rush, she is the second boss. Kill Ogress, kill Joro-gumo, then intentionally die to the next boss. Continue until you have all the leg husks you want.
Took me so many hours of wasting my time to find that this mission is the best.
