Otani Yoshitsugu is a Boss in Nioh.
Otani Yoshitsugu is a general under the Toyotomi clan. Known for his combination of intelligence and bravery, Yoshitsugu has a calm, cool-headed demeanor that conceals a fiery fighting spirit within. Yoshitsugu entered Hideyoshi's service at a young age and was rewarded for his contribution to Hideyoshi's campaign to unify Japan with the title "Gyobu Shoyu," lesser minister of justice. He eventually became known as "Gyobu." Despite his illness, he fought valiantly at Shizugatake and Odawara. During the conquest of Kyushu, he seized a weapon, waded into the Negoro holed up in their temple, and brought back the head of their leader. Yoshitsugu was often in the company of Ishida Mitsunari during his administrative duties, and the two of them became firm friends, able to speak frankly with each other. He is said to have been skilled in not only martial arts but also mystical arts.

Strategy 1 (Melee)
Otani has 2 main attacks. If close, he does a melee combo, with may hits, that hits forward and can be easily side-stepped. If away, he does a dash attack, which is harder overall. I recommend side-stepping the combo and getting behind him. Also don't be afraid to block some melee attacks, ki damage is not excessive. At his back hit him a bit, then prepare to repeat. At range he is harder overall, due to the dash.Once he hits 50% hp, he uses living weapon. Keep the previous strategy, but play safer, as he hits harder. Also, he now has a very scaray unblockable projectile barrage, so don't get away from him

Attacks
Otani Yoshitsugu has two attack phases. In the first phase, ??. In the second Phase, ??
First Phase | |
---|---|
Mixed melee combos | Attacks anywhere between 1 and 4 times, mostly forward attacks. The first strike does low ki damage, and you can side-step the attacks quite easily. So you can either side-step the first, r block it and avoid the second. It is recommended to get behind him with the dodge, so you can hit his back while he finishes the combo. Otani's back is relatively safe. |
Dash attack | Dashes forward. It is dodge-able, but overall harder than dodging the melee combo |
Attack Name | Description and Counter |
Second Phase ( 50% hp or less, he casts living weapon until out of ki ) | |
All the previous attacks | |
Sword slash waves | He shoots several elemental wave projectiles at you. The best way to deal with this is to stay in melee range, so he does not use it. |

He actually resist fire but I think he is weak against earth and wind!

Horizontal attacks served me well here since the boss likes to move sideways. His reach and speed is not big, you can just back up sometimes to dodge him, then rush in. He will be open for many attacks once his ki is drained, and he wastes stamina a lot. He will dodge back after his combo, so be quick to take advantage, or chase him a little first. He won't really dodge throwables, so you can spam those. Beware of his charge at phase 2, (side roll)as well as his increased damage.

Living weapon with dual swords stunlocks him, makes the fight trivial
